Trust the government. Everything is great!
The White House would like The People to know that everything is okay. The United States is the strongest it has been in decades and we should be thankful for their strong and capable leadership.
Evidently, to this administration, inflation is okay, high crime is okay, illegal immigration is okay, Chinese spy balloons circling the continental U.S. are okay, and mass amounts of hazardous chemicals being pumped into the air is okay.
Every time President Biden opens his mouth, he praises his accomplishments. Yet, for some reason I find myself questioning whether there is any truth to his words. So, what does the White House know that I do not? Why are they praising themselves for accomplishments that have yet to be realized?
The following article will compare and contrast what President Biden says and what studies and other data have proven. I will go over popular topics that President Biden speaks frequently about to determine if what he is saying is true or if he is manipulating our perception. These topics include job growth, inflation, higher income, and bringing business back to the U.S..
Job Growth
Here are three examples of Pres. Biden telling the Public that no other president in history has done better where job growth is concerned.
This, is a manipulation of data and facts. Yes, Pres. Biden is correct that millions of people went back to work during the first two years of his presidency. Yet, it had absolutely nothing to do with the President. The end of quarantine and other Covid-19 protocols were always going to cause this job influx to occur regardless of who was in charge.
The graph below shows unemployment trends spanning the years of 2003 to 2023. This graph is provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It proves that jobs “created” by the Biden Admin are simply a consequence of ending the pandemic and had nothing to do with Pres. Bidens ability to lead. In truth, unemployment is roughly what it was when Trump was president.
Inflation
The White House would also like you to believe that they have fixed the inflation issue.
This too is a manipulation of perception. While inflation may be going down SLOWLY, it is nowhere near what it was, or where it should be.
This graph shows what inflation has looked like over the past ten years.
President Biden further brags about lowering prices for everyday items. Though, according to government websites that track these things, inflation is still alive and well.
The graph to the left shows the price percent increase across four main sectors of consumer products. The graph to the right is a closer look at the blue food bar of the first graph. It shows the price percent increase in several areas related to food.
U.S. News, in 2022, wrote that the average price of food at home rose 10.8%. “This increase marks the largest 12-month rise since the period ending in November 1980” (Kerr, 2022). Further, the author found that “the average price of gas rose 43.6%” (Kerr).
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget claims that inflation, during Bidens time as president, has been the highest it has been in decades.
With that said, while the handling of the economy has been poor, inflation was a likely consequence of the poor handling of Covid-19 and may or may not have occurred had the Covid-19 pandemic not occurred.
Higher Personal Income
Another claim that Pres. Biden made is that wages are up and thus people have more money to spend. This administration has claimed that The People feel happier and more secure in their finances.
In my opinion, this is just a flat out lie. According to a poll taken by the left leaning news platform CNBC, there are as many “as 60% of U.S. consumers living paycheck to paycheck” (Rosenbaum, 2022). The New York Times stated that even though Pres. Biden has claimed to improve pay, the “pay raises aren’t keeping up with inflation” (Smialek, 2022). In fact, despite pay raises, overall earnings have gone down 3.3% due to inflation (Ward, 2023). It’s gotten so bad that lower and middle income houses are forced to consider spending cuts.
The U.S. is producing more, importing less, and The U.S. is creating Businesses
President Biden has stated many times that there are record applications to start businesses.
Unfortunately, applications and petitions are not actually startup companies and thus cannot be rightfully counted as such. The truth seems to be that small businesses are suffering under this administration.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said the “inflation is really hitting small business hard, and that reality is negatively impacting their confidence, their ability to hire, invest in their business, and grow.” (Ward, 2023)
Reasons for these difficulties may be inflation, lack of a workforce, and supply chain problems etc. Nerd Wallet says that “32% of business owners cite inflation as their single most important problem”, “41% of small-business owners note trouble filling jobs”, and “85% of business owners feel the impact of supply chain issues.” (Sehmbi, 2023)
Another misrepresentation of facts by the President comes from his talk surrounding the Trade Deficit. Despite what Pres. Biden has said, we farm out production. Our largest trade deficit accounts are with China, Mexico, Vietnam, Canada, Germany, Japan, and Ireland.
The Problem is that we import more than we export. We are taking too much from other countries and producing little ourselves. The chart below shows that the U.S. is currently in one of the worst positions when it comes to trade. We are not currently bringing enough business back to the United States like the Biden Admin wants us to believe. This is very very bad.
Finally
This is the most honest I’ve seen Pres Biden. Though, I’m not sure where he was going with this.
How are higher prices, lower wages, and an extra 5,000 dollar loss a year, better for working families? These things are unquestionably not better for The People.
Conclusion
As shown many times above, the Biden administration manipulates the public quite often. This article is intended to show you that truth. Cherry picking information from studies, tweaking their meaning and then manipulating the data should not be the practice of a successful president. When next you read something the President says, take a minute to research it. I think you will be surprised to learn how often information has been manipulated.
