Mr. Beast, Jimmy Donaldson of North Carolina, currently reigns as the most subscribed personality on the YouTube platform. His content ranges from challenges to donations, the focus being on helping the less fortunate. His recent video has his charity, Beast Philanthropy, go around the world to provide surgeries that would end up curing one thousand people of blindness.
He explains that there are 200,000,000 people on Earth with blurry vision to complete blindness, and one of the ways they can cure it is with a ten minute surgery. Because their eye lenses are cloudy, the procedure entails a surgeon removing the clouded one and replacing it with an artificial implant. This goes into effect almost immediately, effectively curing the patient.
The video itself is very wholesome, with both the patients and their families being filled with immense joy. Naturally, the internet didn’t see this miracle work the same way. The main criticism the vocal minority has of Mr. Beast is that his framing could be considered ableist of all things.
Never mind. We found the stupidest response to the Mr.beast situation. pic.twitter.com/CQ2pIHlRhc

The hate against Mr. Beast should not be taken seriously of course, but that was only a part of the discussion. Most of the talk around this video are from people around the world calling for socialized medicine and the abolition of capitalism. These people believe it is the government’s responsibility to take care of the welfare of all its citizens, yet they fail to understand the impact private charity makes and the ineffectiveness of the state itself.
I don’t understand why curable blindness is a thing. Why don’t governments step in and help? Even if you’re thinking purely from a financial standpoint it’s hard to see how they don’t roi on taxes from people being able to work again.

Even Mr. Beast himself believes it would be a net positive to offer these services on a larger scale. His strongest point is that people suffering from curable blindness would contribute more to the economy if they could see, which is largely true. This take holds more substance than those who blindly demand that the government take more of your money to pay for everything, but if it is ideal is still up for discussion. We want the most amount of people to be happy and healthy of course, but how does this work at the expense of others?
The government does not owe us anything. Their sole function is to protect our God-given rights, but those in charge have managed to expand its size and scope over the years. It has always been slow and ineffective, chipping away at our liberties, but our dependence on it has never been greater. The concept of private charity is unheard of, yet it would likely be more efficient. We hear about abysmally long wait times in countries with socialized medicine, and despite our system being costly at times, quick treatment is possible.
Mr. Beast is the greatest example of philanthropy in recent history, his business model simple to reproduce. To expand the scale of this type of work, one would have to gain enough followers to be sponsored, then proceed to use those funds to grow the brand on an exponential scale. Mr. Beast has become an expert in the social media landscape, and his recent video can be found below.
