The world’s first transgender figure skater Minna-Maaria Antikainen, showed off her not-so-graceful skills at the European Figure Skating Championships in Espoo, Finland, last week.
The 59-year-old Antikainen, looked less like a world-class figure skater and more like an overweight divorcee trying to impress her first date in 30 years at the Rockefeller Center rink.
And then, just when you think it could not get worse, she falls on the ice.
But apparently, no one notices.
The commentators keep talking, seemingly unaware of the flailing, struggling transgender figure skater, who eventually had to be helped up by one of the less important but vastly more talented dancers in the chorus line.

According to Finnish news reports, the skater who identifies as a gender-neutral woman) had absolutely no skating abilities but a “childhood dream” to become a professional figure skater.
I guess if you can become a woman just by identifying as one, what’s to stop you from becoming a world-class skater just by identifying as one. Skills, female chromosomes … what are those?
Viewers expecting a show definitely got one. Just not the one they were looking for.
A press release on the European Figure Skating Championships’ website, the opening ceremony with the theme, “Just be you”, would showcase performers from various backgrounds. The half-hour opening ceremony was designed by synchronized skating coach Helena Tienhaara with choreographer and coach Beata Leppilampi.
“The opening ceremony will present skaters at various levels, from non-professionals to top athletes. On the ice, we will see Single Skaters, Synchronized Skaters, and Pairs. Included among the performers are Figure Skater Minna-Maaria Antikainen, who defines herself as a gender-neutral woman, adaptive skating performers, and a male synchronized skating team”, Tienhaara said.
At least social media enjoyed the show. Twitter users mercilessly mocked the performance.
Journalist Ian Miles Cheong tweeted, “Europe has become a running joke.”
Dinesh D’souza didn’t hold back, tweeting, “The first transgender figure skater falls on her ass and the international sports commentators pretend it didn’t happen. This rigid ideological conformity is reminiscent of North Korea where the media pretends that the ruling dwarf is the best athlete of all time in all sporting events.”
According to Breitbart, Executive Director of the Finnish Figure Skating Association and Secretary General of the ISU European Figure Skating Championships, Outi Wuorenheimo, attempted to justify the fiasco, saying that the move was a strike for diversity.
“We want to change the figure skating world by showing that talking about a skater’s weight is not the top priority, but muscular, healthy athletes may also succeed at the top level. It is important that we have different-looking skaters of various sizes in the competitions,” Wuorenheimo said.
What a win for diversity!
