Thomas Sowell, an American author and a political commentator who was a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, quoted: “Racism is not dead, but it is on life support — kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as ‘racists’” (Hoover). Racism is in fact still alive in this world. People act as though racism is its own being, when in reality, only people can control what comes out of their mouths.
Racism means “discrimination or prejudice based on race.” Unfortunately, this generation is stuck on the fact that only people of color experience racism, when in reality, it can occur within any race. As long as a person judges someone for the color of their skin, it is considered racism. We would easily get rid of the racist comments and actions of other people by simply stopping it. Racism is an act of hatred towards each other.
People become racist out of anger or resentment towards a certain race. Back in the early 1600s, the white people felt superior over the black citizens. Which resulted in slavery and abuse towards the community. As the years passed, slavery began to dissipate and equal rights were set in place. In the early and late 1900s, a list of different acts and protests occurred in order for black people to have the same rights as white people.
The constant victim mentality from the people of color has gotten out of control. In 2020, when the Black Lives Matter movement made its second appearance, instead of protesting for a valid reason, they used that time as a way to burn, loot, and harm others. How does stealing from stores have anything to do with black power? All that shows me is that all they want is for them to get away with crimes without consequences.
If there really was oppression, do you really think the black people who are tv stars, artists, and politicians, football players, basketball players, etc. would be where they are? Absolutely not! Racism has occurred most commonly in the black community towards white people since 2020. Because they were given praise and pity by the some of the public. They used it as a way to “get back at those who enslaved their ancestors”, or at least, that is what they responded with.
When I used to be involved with standing up for the Republican party, I was trashed by the black community and called a coon for not standing with them. Coon is a racial slur towards the black race. When I asked why it was okay to make racial slurs to white people, but not to black people, the answer I was given only made me burst into laughter.
The answer I got was: “It’s not racism, it prejudiced. We can’t be racist to white people; it doesn’t count”, while not understanding that the two words mean almost the same thing, if not, the same exact thing. So, at the end of the day, they are still being racist no matter the color of their skin. What has confused me the most is the n word slur. Why is it that only the black community is allowed to say it when the white people started it? When the white people started this the derogatory word towards the black people, why did they continue to say it?
Also, if the word is so bad that only a certain race is allowed to say it, why not get rid of the word all together? Why do we have to carry on a word with a negative background? Why not just get rid of it and be positive towards one another? What sense does that make? Racism does not have to continue; we choose to carry it on by teaching it to our kids and learning it amongst our peers. And teaching the black kids to fear white cops and any white person in general. All for what?
In the Bible, it states in John 15:12: “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.” Continuing this hate only causes a greater division that we shouldn’t have to deal with. We are one nation under God. The black leaders of our past did not go through all of the struggles just for us to act as though nothing has changed. We have more opportunities than ever! Why not use it in order to make a change?
