Not so schwifty…
In a startling recent development, Rick and Morty co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland has been fired from Adult Swim and from Rick and Morty production due to criminal charges from 2022 being brought to light and a trial forthcoming. But, what do we know about what happened with Justin Roiland?
The Charges Roiland is Accused of…![](https://roaringright.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/justin-roiland-1024x538-1-300x158.jpg)
In 2020, Justin Roiland was arrested for felony Domestic Battery and False Imprisonment of a then unnamed woman Roiland was dating. Once light was shed on these charges, Adult Swim, Rick and Morty, and recently, Roiland’s gaming studio Squanch games announced they have ended creative relations with Justin as well.
If found guilty, Roiland faces serious prison time as a result of his actions. Either way, however, his career will never be the same.
What’s next for Rick and Morty?
Rick and Morty’s official Instagram has already confirmed that Season 7 is on the way, presumably meaning Season 7 will be the final season of the series, and if that is the case, they need to figure out casting and FAST. The show is famous for refusing to return to previous planets, universes, and storylines, but as the show comes to a close, fans still have questions that the final season will definitely need to take into consideration. Questions like, is Jerry secretly a genius? Is Morty a young variant of Rick? Is Summer secretly the villain? Only time will tell…
Are Roiland’s Past Works Now Sullied?
It’s a question as old as that R. Kelly incident: if a creator is revealed to have done awful things in their personal life, is it allowed to still enjoy their work? Well, yes and no.
It entirely rests on you, the viewer. But, it also comes down to one’s own conscience. For example, The Cosby Show I’m sure is still watched by people that grew up with it, merely for the memories, of course not because of Cosby as a person. Now, would Cosby’s victims agree? Probably not, hence, conscience. Each of us was blessed with one, and whether or not you go back and rewatch old Rick and Morty episodes is entirely up to you.
Personally, this writer will have a hard time enjoying the man’s work, having grown up around and suffered from domestic abuse, but it’s as was written: conscience. Who knows, maybe had Roiland obeyed his conscience, you wouldn’t be reading THIS article right now. Yet, here we are.
Conclusion
Justin Roiland has single handedly ruined his own career, his reputation, and taken away many of his former fans’ ability to enjoy a show he created and voiced in. Abuse in any form is never ok, and if anyone reading this is suffering from abuse in any form, this writer encourages you to seek help however you can and get yourself out of that position with anyone you trust to help you.
As for Roiland, his case is set to begin pre-trial in April and is expected to last all the way until late October 2023. Given the recent outpouring of screenshots of DM encounters with his fans and text threads with his coworkers/employees, it’s safe to say, at the very least, Justin Roiland was never a good person, and time will tell if the accusations made against him are factual, but needless to say, Justin Roiland’s reputation will never be the same.
This has become such a glaringly obvious pattern in hard left-leaning entertainment: those that shout “equality” and “fairness” the loudest are typically the worst people to come across in real life. That’s because the machine doesn’t care about what’s right and wrong, it’s all about the bottom line, money. What’s happened with Roiland is tragedy for the women who loved him and for the people that worked for him.
Now, only time will tell what results are given.
